Letting Go Is Letting Happiness In

by childless stepparent

We often experience “letting go” as resignation. Passively letting something slide through our fingers. Passive letting go feels like loss.

Active letting go is different.

It’s awake. It’s joyful. Nothing slips through our fingers; instead, we unclench our fist. Whatever we’re letting go of – we invite it to fly away like a bird. Active letting go creates space.

Letting go in this way allows happiness in.

Try this: Think of the most difficult part of being a childless stepparent. Wrap your thoughts around it, hold tight, and then let it go. Let go with gratitude and joy. Create space for something new.
