Self-Created Suffering and Freedom
by childless stepparent
“If we do not think through things well, if our vision is only short-term and our methods only superficial, and if we do not consider things with an open and relaxed outlook, then we turn what started as minor problems into major difficulties. In other words, we ourselves create a great deal of our own suffering.”
~ His Holiness the Dalai Lama | Daily Advice from the Heart
The beauty of this Buddhist teaching – that we ourselves create most of our own suffering – is empowering because it means we can make a change.
When we find ourselves tangled in the painful – or just exasperating – realities of being a childless stepparent, we may not be able to change our situation. But we can always find change within ourselves.
We can change the way we react to things. We can shift our focus from scarcity to abundance. We can be open and relaxed.
Step back. Breathe. Let go.
