Be Patient, Step Back, Sit Still
by childless stepparent
Do you have the patience to wait
till your mud settles and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving
till the right action arises by itself?
~ Tao Te Ching
Being a childless stepparent is complicated. Our waters are often turbulent and muddied.
We have stepchildren in our life: gift.
We want our own child but remain childless: grief.
We work with our spouse to create a happy, loving home: rewarding.
We are faced with impossible societal expectations: challenging.
I have been patiently waiting, unmoving, and my mud has settled. I am clear.
We need to allow the situation to unfold. Allow the right action to arise by itself. This takes time.
Step back. Breathe. Let go.
